IDQP Recap

General Information

The Idaho QSO Party is a Party, not a contest.  We appreciate that
everyone was using his/her best manners while participating.  This
year we have received a total of 141 logs, over twice what we had
received in past years!  At least part of the reason – there were
great openings to Europe, Asia, and South America at various times
during the event period.

Staff

We are represented as follows: Ed Campbell (NT7TT) was the founder
of the “modern” Idaho QSO party. The Sponsoring Club is the
Kootenai Amateur Radio Society (KARS).  KARS members who participated
in post event log processing and evaluation included (in no particular order) –
Jackie (KF7RPP), Quint (W7CQW), Bonnie (KG6QQM), Rick (KI7I), Mark (N7MA),
Pat (W7SGS), Lee (AA7AF), and Ed (AI7H).  And our webmaster is John (KØIP).
Unfortunately the “Day Job” of NT7TT has required him to move to the state of Texas, but
he was able to return to Idaho for the Idaho QSO Party weekend this year.

Idaho Station Participation

We received a total of 30 Idaho station logs, and determined (by reviewing
out-of-state logs) that an additional 23 Idaho stations joined us this year.  And
there were stations operating from 29 of the 44 total Counties in Idaho.  Last year
we had 18 Idaho station logs, an additional 46 Idaho stations joined the party, but
only 25 of the 44 Counties were represented.  We note with appreciation that a
total of six Idaho stations operated in the Mobile/Rover category this year.

Score Keeping Philosophy

During the log evaluation process (still manual at this time), we compared
the “Claimed Score” (if one was submitted) to our Calculated Score.  128 of
the 141 logs were accepted with Claimed Score equal to Calculated Score, or no
Claimed Score was provided.  This leaves 13 logs where some difference existed
between Claim Score and Calculated Score.  Clearly there is some ambiguity in the
current scoring rules, and we will address this problem over the summer this year.

Certificates

In appreciation of your participation, we will create a Certificate for each station who
worked the Idaho QSO Party in 2013.
The Certificates will be sent via e-mail, as we are on a very tight budget.

Donations

We had cash donations from two stations this year.  Your donations are greatly appreciated,
as they help to keep the Idaho QSO Party a “neutral” cash flow for the sponsoring Club.

Changes For Next Year

The log evaluation committee indicates that we MUST make some changes for 2014.  These
changes (principally clarification  of event rules) will be posted during summer 2013.

Thanks and 73, Ed, AI7H for the Idaho QSO Party
