Idaho QSO Party 2016 Recap The Idaho QSO Party is now eleven years old! We certainly appreciate the logs submitted by a total of 106 stations this year (up a bit from last year). From cross-checking, we detected that a total of 51 stations located in Idaho were participants (25 sent in their logs). This year there was at least one station participating from 34 of the 44 Idaho Counties. Thanks to the stations in 28 US States, 3 Canadian Provinces, and 4 DX entities who submitted logs. As in most operating events, there were a huge number of stations who participated but didn’t submit logs (the “we will give him a QSO so he gets credit in his log” idea). You are encouraged to submit your QSO’s to ARRL’s “Logbook Of The World” (LoTW). This year we are listing our Idaho stations who operated “truly
mobile” as a grouping, We tracked how long it takes stations to send in their logs, and
found that 97 percent of A final comment on logging: We process all submitted logs “by hand”, counting your QSO’s and Multipliers, then calculating a total score. In most cases, our Calculated Score was equal to the Claimed Score. A few participants sent their logs using the template for the QSO party from another state or organization. We were able to use the data from those logs, but our Calculated Score was not equal to the Claimed Score because the math was not the same as that used in the other event. While “scoring” is an important parameter, it’s important for all to remember that this was a Party, not a Contest. Every participant is “huge” to us, no matter if his score was large or small. I was happy to participate in the IDQP again this year.
I’m not a big contester, but love the size and scope of this
contest. It’s a lot of fun! I worked QRP CW and enjoyed
working some of the same guys from last year. I may have
been able to work a few more but went to church Sunday

It was nice to have 2 other digi contest to help. Was a
challenge to get the software (Mixw) configured. Last 45 mins
10 meters opened up to help with multi. Was able to increase
my score from last year only by 2000 points.

Poor band conditions. Not many stations heard, just have
265-foot inverted V.

Really enjoyed working stations from my home state of
Idaho. Operated for
about 4.5 hours on 40M SSB. Radio: Yaesu FT-100, power out 90 watts.
Antenna: Butternut HF9V ground mounted vertical. This is my first time using
a logging program. Hope my Cabrillo log works OK.

I had a great time
despite the poor band conditions and the fact I couldn't get 20 meters
to tune for me. I wish I had paid for the full N3FPJ program earlier. By the
time they got
the password to me the contest was over. The first time is the toughest and
this was my first solo
contest even though I had been a ham for almost 38 years. I have done several
field day's,
but competing solo puts more pressure on. Representing Idaho and Payette County
was fun,
I look forward to this event next year and with this year's experience under my
belt, I should
be more successful and have more fun doing it. Thanks for your work in
promoting Idaho

We have participated in the Idaho QSO Party for about 5 years and thoroughly
enjoy it. Why?
It is the first chance we have to camp out as a group. You know the routine –
camp trailers, camp fire,
pot luck dinner, etc. And we erect our GP Small Army tent and work from there,
It is dry camping so

I use Xlog on Linux for my logging. Xlog doesn't have a Cabrillo
template for this contest. Hence, I'm developing my own converter
from Xlog file to Cabrillo. Any (polite)feedback on the format

the following contesters, assembled at KØIP's house, the contest started
Saturday at 12 noon local time, we had 2 stations on the air,
K7ETE (Don) and myself KØIP
(John) got the ball rolling,
propagation was good on Saturday, ND7O (Rhett)
arrived at about 1 Pm
and at one point Rhett said the loggers statistics indicated we were running
about 600 Q's an hour, HEY, a short burst for a few minutes.
it probably helped running full legal Power and a BIG mono-band antenna on
20 meters, TH7DXX on 15&10
KO7P (Jim) & WB7VKE (Dick)
came over and operated, W7EKG (Paul) came over for
moral support !
Sunday was a real disappointment. Propagation was BAD, I did get the "worked all
Greece" (SV) on 15 meters,
11 of them but considering I don't hear SV stations all that often, it was a
bunch,, Italy (I) too... 17 of them,
we had a spot skip into southern Italy and Greece for several hours. We got
most of the DX on Saturday, working
stations in Croatia, Argentina, Bahamas, Chile, Germany,
Spain, Ireland, France, Italy, Moldavia, Japan,
Svalbard Island, Argentina, Finland, Czech Republic , Belgium, Holland, Brazil,
European & Asiatic Russia,
Slovenia, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Ukraine, Mexico, Canary Islands, .
the DX called us, nice to be on the other side of the pile up .
two new PARC Tech's showed up to watch and listen.
and the BEER was good too !
